WJA Case Study – Water Jetting and Wind Farm Development

September 14, 2021  -  Water Jetting Association

High pressure and ultra-high pressure water jetting is proving vital in the race to replace fossil fuels with wind power in the battle against climate change.

Generating energy with thousands of off-shore wind turbines is central to the UK Government’s target of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Water jetting is also proving central to the process of maintaining the monopiles upon which wind turbines are installed.

Advanced hydrodemolition techniques are being used to remove redundant monopiles as wind farms are renewed and expanded in the North Sea and beyond.

In our case study, WJA member RGL Services explains how it has developed new abrasive water jet cutting technologies to carry out this task.

RGL Commercial Director Jeremy Twigg says: “Hydrodemolition is proving to be the most sustainable, safest and most reliable method for removing wind turbine piles.”
